Message from Elementary Vice Principal

“When I say to a parent, “read to a child”, I don’t want it to sound like medicine. I want it to sound like chocolate. ” — Mem Fox

The beginning of our exciting school year started with eager children, enthusiastic teachers, and an exciting curriculum. Optimism was our August Theme to begin the school year. The Welcome Assembly included both students and teachers performing creative songs and dances.

September started strong with Reading Month and the Integrity Theme. Both Elementary and Early Childhood students dressed as their favorite book characters and listened to guest readers. The Elementary students received a weekly reading log to achieve their class reading goal. The TAS Annual Book Fair and September Assembly completed Reading Month in the Elementary School.

The Moon Festival was a creative, colorful celebration for the entire school. The Vietnamese teachers prepared the TAS Students PreK-12 for a wonderful performance. They sang, danced both traditional and hip hop styles, and ended with a Lion Dance outside.

In an effort to support the whole child, we began Friday Fitness Day in the TAS Elementary School and Early Childhood Center. Teachers and students have the option of wearing fitness clothing to school every Friday this school year. Research shows that students who do brief bursts of exercise before taking a test score higher than others. In addition, regular physical activity breaks during the school day can help sharpen students’ abilities to focus and stay on task. Teachers will guide students in the classroom through short stretches and exercises in the classroom to improve both fitness and learning every Friday.
