While visiting the library, students learned how to look for books and were quick to dive right into all the interesting picture stories we have on our shelves. In music class, Mr. Scott led the students in a boisterous song and dance. Then in physical education class, Ms. Dianne, with the help of some of our best TAS kindergarten students, taught everyone a new game called “Cross the Ocean”. On Thursday night, December 10, 2015, The American School (TAS) Music Department (led by Mr. Nicholas Mason) featured 20 middle and high school students singing holiday carols. The spirited event was held at Starbucks Thao Dien on a fantastic outside patio. More than 100 guests including TAS students, staff, and parents attended to enjoy the Christmas spirit with the musical talent while enjoying the delicious signature drinks at the store. “Jingle Bells,” “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” and “Last Christmas” were some of the wonderful songs featured during the caroling. The talented TAS students made quite the impression on the audience, who began to sang along. Thank you to Mr. Nick and all teachers, staff, and students who organized and attended this cozy event for the school. The students many hours of hard work and practice have paid off in a tremendous way. Seasons’ Greetings to all!
More than 60 students, teachers, and families came together to participate in the 19th annual Terry Fox Run in Ho Chi Minh City on November 29, 2015. “The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families, and groups to raise money for cancer research in Terry’s name. It is a day of celebrating Terry’s legacy and helping to keep alive his dream of finding a cure for cancer,” according to the official HCMC Terry Fox Run website. The American School (TAS) expanded it’s fundraising efforts this year by partnering as a registration site for the Thao Dien, District 2 area, and was able to host a wonderful presentation by the students of the Canadian International School System (CISS) on both elementary and middle-high school campuses for TAS students. According to CanCham’s website, the run was a huge success with “another overwhelming turnout with 99 companies and over 16,800 participants, and upwards of VND 1,000,000,000 raised toward cancer research in Vietnam.” It was a great five-kilometer run in the scenic Phu My Hung neighborhood, and many students brought their bicycles, skateboards, and roller blades to join in the fun. Thank you to the teachers and community service club, who helped organized the TAS spirit, for a meaningful cause in the city.
